MOCAD Exhibit

Our visual narrative From Other to Center was featured in a special exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) in 2021.

The Detroit Narrative Agency: Radical Remedies exhibit highlighted short films, videos, and moving image works. We are so grateful to have been included among such talented artists!

Detroit Diversity Conference

In 2020, we presented our short film and larger project at Wayne State University’s inaugural Diversity Conference in Detroit. We spoke on our panel about what it means to us to find grounding in our ancestral identities. As women of color from four different walks of life, we shared how we each intend to honor our respective cultures in a way that feels genuine and satisfying to us.

‘Shattered Justice, Shattered Lives’ Film Fest

In 2021, our short film From Other to Center was featured in the ‘Shattered Justice, Shattered Lives’ virtual film fest hosted by the Justice for Muslims Collective and other organizations.

Independent Film Festival Ypsilanti (IFFY)

From Other to Center co-founder Aysha Jamali’s short experimental film Adornment debuted on the big screen at the 2023 Independent Film Festival Ypsilanti (IFFY).

NOVA 24 Photo + Film Festival

From Other to Center co-founder Aysha Jamali’s self-portrait was featured in NOVA 24’s ‘Presence’ show in 2024. Her portrait titled ‘Gota dupatta’ highlights a style of embroidery native to her ancestral land. She achieved the shot by holding the netted dupatta with the gota embroidery in front of her to highlight the gota as if it was a part of her. See the portrait for yourself!
